This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), including depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions experienced during pregnancy and the postpartum period. About the Presenter

Rebecca Canzonieri is a clinical social worker with nearly a decade of experience, I specialize in women’s health and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Through both specialized training and personal experience, I have developed a deep passion for supporting individuals navigating these often-overlooked challenges.

I work in private practice, focusing primarily on PMADs, while also providing outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient therapy groups, and employee assistance program services at a local hospital. I am dedicated to educating fellow clinicians on the unique nature of perinatal mood disorders and advocating for increased awareness and positive change for this underserved population. I am licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. and am committed to making a lasting impact on the field of women’s mental health.

1. **Introduction to Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders** (20 minutes)
- Overview of PMADs, their impact, and prevalence

2. **Risk Factors and Causes** (25 minutes)
- Biological, psychological, and environmental factors influencing PMADs

3. **Signs and Symptoms** (25 minutes)
- Identifying symptoms of perinatal depression, anxiety, and other disorders
- Overview of screening tools and diagnostic criteria

4. **Treatment Approaches** (30 minutes)
- Overview of evidence-based therapies (CBT, IPT, etc.) and pharmacological treatments
- Discussing support systems and self-care strategies

**BREAK** (10 minutes)

5. **Cultural Competency in Care** (30 minutes)
- Addressing stigma, cultural differences, and providing inclusive care

6. **Interventions and Referrals** (20 minutes)
- Identifying when to refer for specialist care and discussing available resources
